Indonesia – More Than 5,000 Families Displaced by Floods in West Kalimantan
" Disaster authorities in the country reported that 2 people died and 2 were injured after floods in North Kayong Regency, West Kalimantan Province on 13 July. As many as 5,114 houses were submerged in Sukadana District and Maya Island District and 4,845 families were evacuated.
Flooding also struck in Kapuas Hulu Regency of West Kalimantan province from 13 July 2021. As of 17 July, flooding has affected 19,121 people across the districts of Hulu Gurung, Silat Hulu, Boyan Tanjung, Pengkadan, Bunut Hulu and Silat Hilir. The local disaster agency said at least 422 families (1,681 people) were forced to evacuate due to the flood, which damaged 5,002 houses and 217 public buildings.
Parts of Mempawah Regency in West Kalimantan Province have also been affected. As of 21 July, the local disaster agency said 7,885 families (26,245 people) across the districts of Jongkat, Segedong, Sui Kunyit, Sui Pinyuh, Lower Mempawah and East Mempawah,
On 14 July as many as 26 villages spread across four districts in Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan Province, were flooded. Water was up to 3 metres deep in some areas. As of 15 July, as many as 751 families were affected in Kayan Hilir District and 377 people were displaced.
In Central Kalimantan Province, areas of Antang Kalang District, East Kotawaringin Regency, were flooded on 13 July, although authorites said the flood waters receded soon after. At the peak of the floods, 365 houses were inundated.
