Synoptic Situation

Current Weather Summary and Future Developments:
A weak ridge of high pressure over north Qld is directing a northeast to
northwest flow into the Top End. Isolated showers and storms are expected north
of a trough moving through central parts of the Territory with a slightly cooler
southeast change behind the trough. Winds quickly turn northerly along the
western border on Tuesday as a new trough forms over WA and isolated showers and
storms develop in the southwest. Showers and storms are expected to extend to
most parts by mid week as the trough moves slowly eastwards.

Forecast Discussion
Short term...
In the north, expect isolated afternoon/evening showers and storms mainly in the
west. Isol morning fog and mist about the north and east coast and valleys less
likely as low level moisture deepens.

In the south, the trough north of Tennant Creek and will weaken near Elliott
today. Isolated showers expected north of the trough and develop in the western
border areas during this afternoon due to an approaching trough from the west.
Otherwise it will be fine and mostly sunny in the south.

Long Term...
In the north, generally more humid and unstable with isolated showers and storms
across most districts. Low cloud/fog expected to be unlikely as moisture
increases.

In the south, the S/SE change will be short lived as winds quickly turn NE/NW'ly
by mid week. Isolated showers/storms extend throughout the ASD and central
districts on Wed/Thur as the trough moves east. Clearing is expected in the
southwest from Thursday as the next ridge pushes in.

Darwin 4 Day Forecast...
Moist and unstable conditions will continue with the seabreeze the main trigger
for afternoon storms. So for the next few days we can expect a chance of a
shower or storm, but mainly inland in the afternoon.

Warning Summary
A Fire Weather Warning and a Fire Ban are current for the Alice Springs
District.

Current Weather Summary and Future Developments:
A humid north to northwest flow continues over the northern half causing
isolated showers and storms. In the south, moderate to fresh northwest winds
ahead of a slightly cooler southerly change which extends across the Alice
Springs District during Friday. This change extends to central parts on Saturday
and to the base of the Top End on Sunday where it weakens. Isolated showers and
storms across central parts and in the north and eastern Alice Springs district
will gradually contract northwards during the next few days as southeasterly
winds become established.

Forecast for Thursday Evening:
Fine in the southwest Alice Springs District. Isolated showers and storms
elsewhere. Storms are expected to be gusty across the northeastern Alice Springs
District with possible damaging wind gusts. Light to moderate northeast to
northwest winds, tending fresh and gusty west to northwesterly over the Alice
Springs District.

Forecast for Friday:
Alice Springs District.
Sunny apart from isolated showers and gusty storms in the far north and east
with possible damaging wind gusts. Moderate to fresh and gusty west to northwest
winds ahead of a south to southwest wind change extending throughout.

North of the Alice Springs District...
Isolated showers and storms, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Light to
moderate north to northwest winds, fresh and gusty at times during the day in
the south.

Fire Danger: Severe over the eastern Alice Springs District. High to Very High
elsewhere.

Forecast for Saturday:
Alice Springs District.
Sunny and cooler. Moderate southeast winds, fresh and gusty during the morning.

North of the Alice Springs District...
Isolated showers and storms, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Light to
moderate north to northwest winds tending moderate southeasterly in the south.

Sunday Outlook:
Isolated showers and storms north of Tennant Creek. Sunny to the south.

Monday Outlook:
Isolated showers and storms north of Elliott. Sunny to the south.

The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am CST Friday.

Gusty storms, we need a 2 minute 48.5Kt gust to issue a "severe TS warning" for a city here in Oz. Also we need a 1000nm long line of TS with little or no separation between storms moving at least 20 kt/h to be considered a "squall TS".

Current Weather Summary and Future Developments:
A ridge of high pressure on the Qld coast is directing an east to northeast flow
over the Territory ahead of a trough moving through central parts of the
Territory. The trough moves north of Tennant Creek today and then becomes slow
moving. A drier southeast change following the trough will cause a return to
fine conditions in the eastern Alice Springs and southern Barkly districts on
Wednesday and Thursday. Another trough over WA will approach the southwestern
border later in the week causing showers and storms to extend further east.

Forecast Discussion
Short term...
The ridge along the Qld coast maintains an E/NE flow across the NT ahead of a
trough moving through the northern ASD. Ridging in the south will cause a
moderate SE flow over the ASD and the trough to move north of Tennant Creek
today before stalling. Isolated showers and storms throughout, mainly in the
afternoon and overnight.

Long Term...
Little change across the Top End and Gulf Country with gulf lines and sea breeze
convergence the main triggers for isolated showers and storms. The trough moves
north into the Barkly District on Wednesday as the ridge extends over the
eastern ASD. The ridge acts to stabilize conditions with SH/TS activity clearing
in the eastern Alice Springs and southern Barkly districts during Wed/Thurs.
Another trough over WA approaches the SW late in the week causing isol SH/TS
activity to extend eastwards across the ASD.

Darwin 4 Day Forecast...
Showers or storms about, mostly likely in the late afternoon or early morning.

Pana la 70 de cm au cazut. Incredibil. In octombrie.

Tornadele si uraganele ce nu-mi plac la americani, dar in rest pare a fi clima perfecta pentru unii ca noi, se trece de la supercelule la viscole si invers in no time, la fel de la canicula la ger si invers.

Furtuna de zapada din NY -un alt NE'er...

Si in Bucuresti am avut zapada la sol in octombrie... se intampla pe 29, in 1997...(la Alexandria stratul a atins chiar 22 cm)

E bine ca zapada asta devreme nu rezista prea mult pe sol...insa este un mare challenge pentru mets.

Stiu ca zapada aia din 1997 s-a topit rapid, cu o seara inainte venea fratele de afara si zicea ca bate un vant taios.

Interesanta situatia sinoptica din acea zi...1035 mb si totusi ninge 22 cm...
